Summary: Objective: To understand how verrucous candidiasis presents clinically and histologically. Also understanding possible differential diagnoses to consider with this presentation.
Designs: A retrospective search was done to identify cases diagnosed as verrucous candidiasis. Clinical pictures and immunohistochemistry stains used were also noted. A review of the pathology reports confirmed the data. All these cases were pulled from the Georgia Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center pathology laboratory database.
Results: We identified 30 cases of cutaneous verrucous candidiasis from January 2016 to October 2024. One case identified had a co-existent squamous cell carcinoma diagnosis.
Conclusions: If one is aware of verrucous candidiasis and how to properly diagnose it, the number of squamous cell carcinoma and condyloma misdiagnoses can dramatically decrease as well as costs associated with ancillary studies.
