Summary: - KC are common in parathyroids, showing a distinct histologic and IHC profile with two subtypes. - We provide provisional immunophenotypic progression from KC to various maturing structures including salivary heterotopia. - KC have an inferior parathyroid predilection favoring branchial cleft III distribution. - The high prevalence of KC phenotype in PTH- cysts supports derivation of non-functioning cysts from KC. PTH+ cysts are more compatible with cystic change within hyperfunctioning glands.
